Mini Heart Apple Pies

I bought a bunch of apples, realized the hubby doesn't like them that much, and needed something to do with them. These were the result.
They came out so cute! I think I ended up eating them all before I could give any away... >.<
These were the simplest recipes I could find and it all came out delish~ the crust is super flaky and buttery~

Mini Heart Apple Tarts

Dough: (Used Anne Burrell's HERE)
  • 1 1/2 sticks cold butter, cut into pea size pieces
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • Pinch kosher salt
  • 3 to 4 tablespoons ice water
Apple Filling: (Bobby Flay's easy recipe HERE)
  • 3 Gala apples
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 4 tsp. flour
  • 2/3 tsp. cinnamon
Directions:

In a food processor, pulse the butter, flour and salt together. Pulse it well, then add the water one tablespoon at a time just until the dough comes together. Pull out the dough, form it into a disk-shape and cover in saran wrap. Place it in the fridge for at least an hour.

When that is almost done chilling, prep the apples. Slice the apples thinly, with about 1/2 in. widths so that they fit into the tarts. In a small bowl, mix the apples with the sugar, cinnamon, and flour.

Preheat the oven to 375F.
On a floured surface, roll out the dough to your desired thickness. Using a small heart cookie cutter, cut out two pieces of dough. On the first, place a spoonful of apple filling (try to get rid of as much juice as you can). Leave a bit of space around the edges. Stretch your second piece of dough a bit so that it will fit over the first. Seal the edges lightly using a fork. Using a small knife, make a small heart slit in the middle of the tart.
Bake for 10-15 minutes.
